This year Spanish State Research Agency has granted two projects from “Consolidación Investigadora 2022” and “Proyectos Generación de Conocimiento 2022” calls to VioBio Lab. The projects are led by Dr. María Viñas Peña and financed with European funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan that aims to promote R&D activities to increase the competitiveness and international leadership of Spanish science and technology.

GOLDENEYE project (CNS2022-135326) goal is to advance in our understanding of the disruptions in the retinoscleral signaling pathways leading to myopia progression. The development of novel innovative optical techniques, multiphoton microscopy, to characterize myopic retinas in unprecedented details will allow us to gain novel insights to determine myopia biomarkers and to enhance treatment effects.
MYOFLUOGOLD project (PID2022-139840OA-I00) is also focused on the development of therapeutical approaches to stop myopia progression and open up new horizons to reverse its impact on society. The core objective of the project is to advance our fundamental understanding of the biology underlying refractive eye development using new imaging technologies with emphasis on Adaptive Optics based visual simulations, fluorescence microscopy and novel nanoparticles-enhanced crosslinking treatments.
